Old and New May 12

Old: I added new film festival submission forms into the computer. I also added the forms into the MIACC film festival binder.

Old: I typed whatever Nikita gave me. For example she gave me some film critics that people send. I also added more colleges and High schools to the media list.

New: On Tuesday, when I went to the site, I added new DVDs and then Nikita gave me film critics to type. At 4.30, we all got ready to go to Icon Gallery for the book launch. We got there early. We put the chairs up and food and drinks and we got ready for guests to arrive. At 5 we were finished. So Aroon told us to just sit and hang out. We all sat down and told jokes and laughed with Nikita (This is when we see the fun part of our mentors). By 6.25, 6.30, people started to arrive and we had to start serving and getting people’s names for the mailing list that I have to updated later. The day was really fun. Some people were interesting and fun. We hung out with Nikita. She’s the best (Seriously). We heard the author talk about her book and blah blah…At 8:15, Macksut, Sunny, Diana and I had to leave because our metro cards would not work after 8:30. So we told Nikita we were leaving and she told us to wait for her so we can leave together. The subway was 2 minutes away from the gallery. We all took the train home. I got home at 9 sharp. It was a cool day. Now I got new best friends but in a good way (Sunny, Macksut, Nikita). By the way, Macksut said that he drinks “donkey pee”. lol

New: I added all the names and emails of the guests at the book launch. I also chatted with Nikita. She was really nice and easy to talk to. The week was awesome!!

Internship Final Reflection!!

Did you meet your goals?
My goals for the internship program was to learn more about film making. I also wanted to know more about the site and i did meet one goal. I did learn more about my internship site.

What are the most important things you’ve learned?

I have learned to be professional in an office. I have learned to talk, act and behave like a professional. I learned how to answer phone calls in a professional and good way.

In what ways have your grown?

I have grown to love my internship site. I have grown better in excel. I could type better and faster than before. I have grown in planning events and helping out when it starts. I learned a lot about my site. It is a great site and it is really inviting. It has many ways to congratulate authors, dancers, artists and film makers.

What were the highlights of your internship experience?

At my site, I help plan events and make the happen. I send packages to other organizations to let them know about the events happening. I also use the internet a lot to do research about different organizations and I also use the computer to type paperworks for the office.

If you can, describe a memorable moment or experience.

The best times of internship, other than the events, are the chats I had with Nikita about Indian films. We mostly talk about HRITHIK, who is the best actor and dancer all over INDIA. She even said that she used to have a club with Hrithik's wife before their marriage. We listen to songs and we watch videos or Hrithik's acting and then we say if he was good or bad. After talking, I always ask her if she has anything for me to do and then she gets happy and sometimes she calls me, "Honey". It's rarely that she says that word and if she does say it, then she's really in a very good mood. My best times are always with Nikita.

What challenges did you overcome?

I faced many challenges. First of all,I had doubts about how my site was going to be. In the beginning, I didn't like the kinds of jobs that were given. Second of all, my mentor wasn't there for three months straight and I had to do whatever the office manager gave me. I was not happy because i thought that I should only do what my mentor told me. But then I got used to the office manager. Now, of all the people in my internship site, I think she's the best. Not only is she fun but she is a role model. Whenever her boss talks to her (even in a rude way) she does everything. And that shows how much value she gives to her job. She has only been working for about 8 months but she shows the qualities of an experienced worker. She's great!!!

What advice would you give a new intern at this site?

In the beginning (for some people), things would not go easy. But gradually, you'll notice everything changing. It's good to have doubts at the beginning but if you continue working hard and doing what you're told, you'll have the best times.
*WORK HARD!
*TAKE EVERYTHING SERIOUSLY!
*HAVE FUN!!! :)

What will you miss about your internship?

I'm going to miss internship so much. Though sometimes working is very tiring, I'm happy I'm happy I go to internship.I'm going to miss Aroon's great laughter and joy. I'm going to miss going to events and participating in them. And mostly, I'm going to miss NIKITA a lot. She has been helpful, fun and exhilarating. She makes me want to really work. All our chats about India's films and dances and actors (Hrithik) has been great. And I'm going to really miss her. She turned out to be my mentor and even better.:'(

Old and New May 5

This week was very different from the others:

Old: I updated the mailing list and helped Nikita get ready for the show Rafta Rafta...

Old: I put cards into envelopes and got them ready to send.

New: This week, I was sent to the post office for the first time in my life. i had no idea how to get there and what to expect when i get there. I was asking stupid quetions such as, "What is the name of the building?" or "Do i have to take the train?" Everyone was laughing at me, even Nikita. Actually, Nikita was in a very good mood this week. I love her...

New: I delivered packages to people in other organizations. And it was har because some people might thought i was a terrorist.

New: I started a donation file. Many people donate to this organisation and i put the donations on the computer and i kept updating them.
NIKITA WAS SO HAPPY. FIRST SHE WAS LIKE, "THANK YOU FOR DELIVERING PACKAGES" AND THEN SHE WAS LIKE, "YOU GUYS DID GREAT TODAY. I AM PROUD." AND I AM PROUD TOO. YAY ME!!!

I did not go to internship today. After the trip, we got lost and by the time we would get to intership, it would be around 2 something. So instead i went to the school thinking that there might be some work to do. When i got there instead, I took the SAT thing with Mr. Sean. And then later i went home. I was getting sick..

Wenesday, 30 2008

Old and New

OLD: I make my media list.

OLD: I also enter the new DVDs that came in. For short, i update the mailing list.

NEW: There’s nothing new that I’ve been doing. Syira and I have been working on the media list and we have not finished yet.

NEW: A woman called and she was asking for tickets to a show called Rafta Rafta. I didn't know anything about it so i had to tell her to call back in 1 hour. I felt flushed. She probably will think, "What kind of people work there?" I was so embarrassed.

Monday, 28 2008

Helllo new post!!!
Today's day was great. When Syira and I came, Nikita told us that she was going through the pr binder that we did and everything was wrong and deorganized. So she told me to do everything over. WE didn't mess the thing up. We just put everything how she tells us. ANyway, I had to go through the site's website and find the press releases and put them in the correct order. It was easy because I knew where to go to find a press release. I was familiar with the site. So i did everything quickly.
New dvds came in and Syira was entering them in.
After i finished with my work, Syira and I went to continue our media list. We have more than 10 pages and everything got lost. Now we only have 5 pages. Nikita changed the computers and now all the documents are deleted. So now we have to start everything again. BooHooHoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all...I left with Diana at 5:30

SO i helped Ms. Carol grade stuff and then i entered those grades into the grade book (I did that a lot). Then i helped Ms. Aarti with some context thing that Marc henry is entering. I worked from 12 to 2:20 or something.

Then Arma, Syira, DIana ANd I went to Brooklyn International High school to practice for the talent show. They will be performing with us since no one in this school wants to (At least not the boys).

Wednesday 16, 2008

OKKkk...I didn't go to internship today...I worked in the school with Ms. Aarti. She made me put up works that she has checked such as the poems and monologes that the three class wrote. I read some people's writing and they were pretty nice...I finished at 3PM. When i finished, there was nothing to do so i went to rMr. Carlos' office and we just chatted. Then Ms. jessie gave me some work to do and i finished it at 5:15. That was all for the day...

Midpoint Reflection Questions

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

My expectations about internship has changed a lot. I used to think that it would be fun but now i figured that it is a really serious job. You can't make mistakes and that's really hard.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?

In school, we work together. At the site, we cannot work together. It's about working alone and completing the work given by the mentor and on time. I actually learned a lot of things at this site. I learned a lot by using excel. And i learned more about the site.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

I don't have a mentor now. But my co-workers are good. I like them and they're nice to me. I really like my boss. She's so fun and she's the only adult that's really fun and exciting.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

The only problem i had was when there was a job given and we forgot to do them. Aroon starts getting mad at us but then later she calms down. And she reminds us that when she gives us something to do, we have to do it. If we don't understand, we can go talk to her. So she's really cool.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?

Because we have internship, i don't have time for anything. Three times a week, I have College Now and that takes away all the time that we have. Also, we have so much woprk to do now than before. I think the teachers give us more work now because they think we have a lot of time to do them. But we don't because some of us don't come back homr early. So it's hard to give in the homeworks and projects on time. But I manage to wake up early and do everything.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?

I don't really know what i want to do. I just want to continue doing the work that the boss gives us. And we have a festival coming. I'm looking really forward to that. I can't wait to help them put everything in order.

What new things have you learned about New York City?

New York City is the best!!!!!!
it's fun to walk down the streets of this city. But too many people smoke and that's killing the environment and it's killing me too.

Thursday, 10 2008

Hello again..!!
INTERNSHIP was so boring today. Syira and I continued doing our mailing list and media list. I can't wait till our mentor comes back from his trip Then maybe, he will give us really cool jobs to do.
I found out today that Aroon really loves old Indian music. I'm surprised she's into music at all. She actually allowed us to play music. If Prachi was here, she would start yelling and saying that music will distract us but Aroon said that she needed music in the office anyway. So we played music. She was happy and we're happy. But internship was boring (I mean the work).

Wednesday, 9 2008

Today, i didn't go to internship. Diana's mentor told us not to come and no one was in the office exceot for Aroon. She told us to work in school instead. So Diana and I, helped Mr. Sean enter names of kids who didn't take the vision test yet. Then Mr. sean sent us out on an errand. We had to buy plastic cups for him. When we went, we got the wrong one so we had to go again. (I hate doing that)

Diana and I practiced for the talent show after school and then we practiced with Arma and Syira. That's all for 2day!!!

Tuesday, 8 2008

Hello!!!
Internship was the same. Not much happened. We just worked on our mailing and media list while the other people type some paper on dance stuff. It was not the same as usual. It was a little bit boring but Syira and I managed. There's not much to say....

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Monday, 7 2008

Hellooo...
I was sick to day...I have a cold, both Syira and I. When we went to the office today, we only saw Prachi, Diana's Mentor. She didn't tell us what to do because we already knew. Nikita send us a list of those things. She said that we have to check the mail, receive phone calls and messages, remind Aroon of the things she has to do and update our mailing and media list. We took charge of the office. WE WERE LIKE THE BOSS UNTIL AROON CAME. When she came, we all told her what we were doing and she was fine with it. We were calling people who did not send application fees and DVDs with their film submittions. It was fun because when we make a mistake, we have to go back and check and then call the person and say we're sorry and the person would tell us that, it was his/her pleasure to have cleared up our mistakes. When Aroon and her friends came, they were gossiping ang cackling ang laughing out lout. We thought we would almost get deaf.

The day was fine. We're still sick but we managed!!!!!!!!!11
When i came home, i made a pic of HRITHIK ROSHAN, the coolest man in India!!

Thursday, 3 2008

Hellooooooo
Today, we had an exhibition. It's like a gallery walk. But i couldn't see anything because i was busy being the jacket guard. This job was fun. We saw MR. APPLE MAN and MR. PINNEAPLE MAN TOO. It was so funny, i had to pee. They kept passing and when i see them, i crack up. There were so many people that came to the gallery. Our jacket holder collapsed on us. And we had to put everything back so they can look neat. People who were leaving had trouble getting their jackets. There was no food either. I was so hungry but I was leaving, i managed to steal something before leaving. I wouldn't really call it stealing. I left the place at 7:30, 8 and then i got home at 9 sharp. It was a great day but not as fun as the others. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, THE ARTS FROM THE OTHER EVENTS ARE THE SAME ONES HERE. HOW BORING IS THAT!!!!

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Wenesday,2, 2008

Yesterday, i went to the office. Nikita wasn't there. But Aroon the boss was there. She was telling us what to do. SHe gave us a bunch of work to do. I liked the work because i thought it was very proffessional. I made binders in which we added names of people that submitted their movies in for the film festival. I mostly worked on the computer. It was really cool. Tomorrow, there's an exhibition again. I can't wait.

Tuesday, the 1st 2008

Today, i went to the gallery with Syira, Macksut, Umer and Sunny. We unpacked some packages that had arts in them. We had to get them ready for the event that's happening on thursday. SO we unpacked everything and then when it was time to go, we left home...........Thats all we did the whole day. We looked at many paintings and pieces of arts. Some of them looked really nice. Others were so weird. I saw most of the paintings from the other booklaunch. the paintings are old but they're doing this exhibition over again but only in Manhattan.
SOme of the paintings and pieces of arts were by Amina, one of the workers in our company. She's the art people director. I;m surprised she had her own popular paintings. WOW ANOTHER FAMOUS PERSON.!!! I MUST BE REALLY LUCKY TO BE SEEN WITH FAMOUS PEOPLE.

Daily post March 31, 2008

Helllooo.........
The beginning of internship AGAIN.
Okay. Nikita send all of us a mail. It said,
Hi Syria, Shalom, Sunny, Umer and Makhsut,

On Monday and Tuesday you will go to the Guild Gallery to unpack all the artwork and help organize everything in detail. The address for the Guild is

45 West 21st Street, Suite #39, 2nd Floor, NYC 10010

(212) 229 2110- Phone number for the Guild

Regards,

Nikita
.
So we went. Before getting there, we walked in the rain for like 3o minutes looking for the place. My feet were soaking wet. There was a puddle in my shoes. My toes couldn't move. I had to stick them up before walking. Anyway, we got to the place, me and Diana. Syira, Umer, Arma, Sunny and Macksut were already there. When we were just about to enter the elevator, they came out and said that Nikita called them and told them to come back to the office. So that meant, i came there for nothing. The place was on West 21st and our office is on West 29st. So we walked back to the ofice, in the rain. Usually we took the taxi but they said we had to talk. Okay, so we came back to the office. When wee arrived, i took off my shoes because they were soaking wet. We said hi to Nikita and Prachi but they didn't answer. Amina, the art director, mentor for Macksut and Umer, called Nikita and she was talking to the person. When she finished talking she said that we had to go back to the office. We didn't even take off our jackets yet. Anyway, we asked her if we had to go now and she said in half an hour. Meanwhile we were working. This is the funny part. Nikita was cutting some paper. And she asked Syira and I, "Which one of you is more creative." I said, "Syira." Syira and I were thinking that when Nikita said, "Creativy", she meant something really nice looking that Syira would make. BUT GUESS WHAT! She gave her and I 2 pairs of scissors and told us to cut paper. So we were doing that and Arma and Umer were stamping the paper. Ms. Aarti came and had a talk with Prachi..blah blah..I couldn't hear them.
A few minutes ater, Nikita told us that we had to go back to the gallery. When we were getting ready, she was telling us that we had to leave now, chap chap. it's an emergency. I asked her if we can have the money for the taxi. (she usually gives us the money) She said no that we don't need money. "It's just a matter of walking a few blocks" she said but she forgot to say that i was raining. Anyway, we walked back to the gallery. When we got there, we unpcked so many boxes. We had to be careful because there were art things in them. That part was fun. The woman Jennifer is nice. We talked a lot and she was asking us questions but we were working at the same time also. Ms. Aarti and Ms. Sherien came and were visualizing all the art we unpacked. They said, they would give us xtra credit if we write about one of the pieces of art. Then they left. Jennifer told us to go get some fresh air and come back because we were finished. We bought food and we came back. We ate. We bought water for her too. BLAH BLAH BLAH...At the end, she said we could go. We went back to the office and then we left from there. It was fun.
THE BAD PART OF THIS DAY WAS WHEN I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A CAR. ME AND SUNNY WERE WALKING TRYING TO CROSS THE STREET.I WAS THINKING ABOUT SOMETHING SUNNY TOLD ME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, I JUST WALKED RIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD. THIS BLACK CAR ALMOST RAN OVER ME. THIS AFRICAN MAN SAVED MY LIFE. HE PULLED ME BACK OR I COULD HAVE BEEN FLAT ON THE FLOOR. I HATE THIS. I'M CRYING..THE REST OF THE TIME, I WAS SO SHOCKED I COULDN'T SPEAK. I LOVE YOU STRANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DECISION

I think I'm going to stop going to College Now. I have so many things to do. I pratically don't have any time for myself anymore. After College now, we have classes. After classes we have internship. Teenage years is not for working till we are tired. When i come back home, i fall asleep and i don't even eat. I have to wake up early the next morning so that i can't get to school early the next morning. And then i have to eat. Sometimes i don't eat at all. Everyone is saying that i'm losing weight...I don't want to lose weight. COME ON!!!I work too much...
I HATE TO SLEEP...zzzzzzzzzzz

Tuesday, 25 2008

I didn't go to internship today. Nikita told us not to come, Syira, Diana, Arma, and I. She said we had to work in school. So we brought some work to so here. WE had to find names of organizations in America such as High schools, colleges, Newspapers and other ways of sending information to the oublic. We had to come up with as many and then later call them or send them emails. That's what we did. LOL
I'm really tired right now. My head hurts a lot.

Monday, 24 of March

TODAY WAS A BAD DAY!!!!
Everything was going good until the dance mentor started to be rude. Syira was asking me a question when someone called. When I picked up the phone, i answered Syira and then i talked to the person on the phone. When i finished, Prachi (the dance mentor) got angry and started telling us in a disrespectful way that we are taking advantage of how they are treating us. WE are not even doing anything bad and she's blaming all of us for taking advantage of how she treats us. She even said that we cannot talk to each other. We all have to be quiet the whole time????? The whole 4 hours, she was lecturing Arma about why she didn't come to intership on Thursday. She wants us to do more hours. Even if we do all our hours and we overpass them, she still wants us to come and do more hours. She's starting to be really bossy. I always ask myself what they would do if we were not here. They would be helplesss. She so BOSSY.I'm starting to hate her (in a good way).

Syira and I worked a lot today and she embarrassed us all. I don't like being embarrassed. It makes me blush In a good way. I'm tired now. We worked so much and we pratically did the same thing over and over again. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

Thursday, March 20, 2008

free day

Thursday the 20th of 2008
I didn't go to intership today because i did more than 12 hours. My mentor told me not to come to day so i didn't go. SO i used my time to finish anything i need for the blog. I'm done. it's lucnh time and i got to go EAT.

Wednesday

UMMMMMMMMMMM......I arrived at 1:30 today at internship because my office manager called me to go pick up stuff from the book launch(yesterday). I walked so much looking for the place. I found it and then we had to take a taxi. The taxi took like forever to get there but I kind of liked it because i didn't want to work. I had a headache (I don't know why!) I guess that's what happened when you're always on the screen of the computer.
When I got back to work, immediately, i started working. Nikita already had a bunch of stuff ready for me and Syira to do.
She always says, "Ok, let me tell you what to do,," and then she will keep talking until we start working....My head keeps hurting. Now I always have to wear my glasses when I'm on the computer because my father said so....I'm so mad.

Book LAunch

Tuesday, 18 2008

TOday, we had a book lunch. A book lunch is like a little party, only it's not wild with loud music(No music at all). It was really nice but there was not enough food to eat. We had to sneak some food to eat. It started at 6:30 and ended at 8:30. The author of the book "THE PAKISTANI BRIDE" came. She was talking about how she wrote the book when and where. She wrote the book on her honeymoon and it was the first book that she ever wrote. Later, she was reading to us with her emotions and feelings and that made the book even more interesting. Reporters came and interviewd her and...
...........I EVEN TALKED TO HER!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? SHE'S FAMOUS!!!
IT'S NOT EVERYDAY YOU MEET A FAMOUS PERSON!!!
THAT'S HER!==^

She's acting..

Something really funny happened when we were going to the book launch. Syira and I were trying to take a cab. We had a bunch of stuff in our hands. We were going to the place to set up everything. When we were looking for a taxi (we didn't know how to do that)we saw a woman near the road waving her hands in the air. She too had many stuff to hold. We guessed she was looking for a taxi too. We were standing there watching what would happen. So finally, a taxi pulled over for her. I ran after the taxi to see if i can get in first. The woman was running too. I got there first and was asking the driver something. The woman came and started yelling. She said, "He pulled over for me. Back off." I acted like i didn't hear and she said it again. Then i said, "Oh Ok. You should have said so." Then when the taxi left, Syira and I were laughing so loud. We started crying (I think that was Syira, not me).
HERE ARE MORE PICS!!!

Monday, 17the 2008 "My whole life is in my bag"

On mOnday the 17th 2008, I went to Intership wishing to have fun and do something that would help me in the future. I was in a happy mood also. I don't even know why. Anyway, as soon as we came in through the door, noticed that the atmosphere was different than it normally is. I saw Aroon (BOSS) sitting with the phone in her hands.
MY BO$$==^

So she started to tell us what happened. SHe said that she was taking stuff out of her car when a bunch of latino guys came up to her and asked her if she needed help. She told them "no" and when she got back to her car, the passenger door was opened. her handbag was missing. She had everything in there. She had her diary, cell phone with all the numbers of the contacts she needs to have, her money and credit card, her license and everything she needs to survive (Except for food and clothes, of course). Luckily, she did not have her laptop, so that was cool. She contacted the police and they helped but in vain. It made no difference. She kept saying over and over again, "My whole life is in my bag, my whole life is in my diary." Her accent was really funny too...I hope she doesn't read this!!!!That was the only thing that happened today. I worked so much. I was typing some stuff that was lost by accident...

NO MOREEEEE

NEW PALTZ

"TUESDAY'S TRIP"
The trip on Tuesday was very good. It was a long drive though. The room we were in first was so big. I couldn't believe it was a classroom. It was unbelievable. The tour was also good. I'm surprised they have a building for almost each major.

The buildings are awesome. The place looks beautiful. What i really liked were the dorm rooms. You can pick where you live depending on how much you're willing to pay. You can rent items such as , fish bowl, lamp, drawers...and put them in you're room. If you're not in, whoever is looking for you can leave a message on your door. How sweet is that?! Living in a dorm is like living by yourself without parents.
On each floo, there's a gym, a kitchen, laundromat, lab and a recreation place. That's just like living in a small mansion. It would be really nice to live there!!!
They have a tennis court, basketball, softball fiel, baseball fiel, track and the practice field. They even have a pond. If it gets frozen, you can ice skate on it. Woo Hoo!
THEY CALL THEMSELVES, "THE HOTTEST SMALL STATE SCHOOL IN AMERICA". Their school is hot but I would say it's small. It is large and it will probably take forever to have a good tour of the whole place.

THE FOOD IS AWESOME. THEY'RE LUCKY TO HAVE A BUFFET AND THEY CAN COME WHENEVER.
THAT'S ALL I REMEMBER!!!! (I remember more but i have to go now.)

Describe one significant activity or project that you have completed or are working on currently
LAst Thursday, my internship had a party for artists. It was like a gallery or exhibition where many arts are put up and people come and visualize them. The artists were also there to talk about their works. Macksut and Umer were helping put the place in place and Syira, Sunny and I helped with the food and the security. We made sure everyone was happy and had a good time.
It was a cool place to go. I saw many pieces of arts and they were so beautiful. I'm surprised someone could do that. I was full of awe. Anyway, after that, Sunny and I went downstairs to do security. We had the walkie-talkie thingie and if we needed something, we tell Macksut (who was upstairs with a walkie thingie) and he brings it to us or he replaces us. The job was really hard because of the people coming in and out of the place. Some of them were really rude. For example, we asked them for their name, email and they kept saying, "We are already on the mailing list. SO we are not going to do that." Other people said that, "We don't want you guys playing with our mails," or "What do you need the email for...?" I was pissed off and I went to talk to the woman that was helping us with the food. She told me to calm down. Then she gave me some food to eat and then I served instead of doing the security. LAter i went back down because i felt pity for Sunny doing all the work himself. (LOL)

LET ME THINK ABOUT THE DIFFICULTIES I HAD...
Oh Yeah!!! I was mad because some people weren't doing their job. When Sunny and I were doing the security, we didn't take everyone's name and addresses down. The head executive came down and told us that there were too many people upstairs than on the paper. So I went up and counted the people and put them on the paper. Everything was good until 7:30 PM. Diana, Syira, Arma and I were going home. The boys were staying till 8:30 PM. Sunny went upstairs and Umer replaced him. But when I was waiting for the girls to come down, I saw that Umer wasn't doing his job. He was talking on the phone and letting other people go upstairs. I told him quietly that what he was supposed to do was write the guests' names and mails down. He told me that he knew how to do the job. And i told him that if he knew, why was he letting people pass? So he told me to stop yelling at him. I don't know if he was angry at something that was been said on the phone but i didn't like the way he was talking. He even said that he would slap the S*** out of me. And I told him to do but that time, the girls were ready and were pushing me out the door. I don't know but Umer and I are always fighting and we don't work good together. He doesn't seem to do much work but goof around. That was my main problem on Thursday. Other than that, everything went fine.
When we were going home, we got a little bit lost and our metro cards couldn't work because we had too many rides. THAT'S ALL I CAN REMEMBER. IT WAS A FUN DAY THOUGH!!!

SECOND WEEK ASSIGNMENT 2

What did you do during your second week?
My second week...
I did more office works. This time it was fun office work. I made a mailing list and a "PR"binder. If i see something in the newspaper about my organization, I would put it in the binder. I also add addresses to the mailing list. At the end of the week, I have to send the mailing list to my mentor and to the head executive of the organization. The best thing I've done is going out to deliver items to other organizations. I went with Sunny and on the way there we got lost (Which was kind of fun) but we found our way back in Manhattan.
How was it different than the first week?
There's not much of a difference form the first week. There was more work this week than the other. And I started to feel more responsible than before. Same work and more work...

What is something that you really like about the internship?
I like the fact that we can talk with the staff. They are really cool and they are fun to talk to. In the beginning i had a different point of view of them but now it's okay. They're alright.

What is something you dislike about the internship?
One thing that's really challenging for me is that they give us many different works to do at the same time. By the time I'm half way done with the first task, there are thousands of them ready for me to do (HYPERBOLE). I can't take my time and do a good job. It is snap snap chap chap...

Who else's blog have your read and commented on?
SO far, i have not commented on anyone's blog but I will do it to some of them...SORRY MR. ANDREW!!!!

The end of the first week of interships

  • What is it? What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?
I worked with the company called IAAC, Indo-America-Arts-Council. It is a non-profit organisation that comes up with special events called the dance, film and art festivals. The main works that the proffessionals do there are filling, typing and mostly office works.
  • Where is it?
My intership site is in Manhattan on West 29th street.
  • Tell a little about your mentor
My mentor's name is Somi. He takes care of the filming part of the company. Right now he doesn't give us any specific jobs to do so the manager of the organisation tells us what to do. My meantor is planning a film festival that's happening all the way in November. So right now, he's getting emails from people about some film submittions. He's not always in so when he's not there, I just do office work with my partner, Syira.
  • What happened on the first day?

On the first day, the office was really messy. So the manager, Nakita, told us to clean everything and make sure everything is on the shelf and in order. For three hours, we cleaned and cleaned. At the end, there was a VERY BIG difference in the office.

  • What kinds of things have you done so far?
So far, I've done a lot of office work. I called different organisations to tell them a change of address. I've made binders for current events and I also made a mailing list where my partner and I typed different addresses from different people. We mostly used excel for everything.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS
  • When do you leave school?
I leave school at 11:45 AM.
  • How long does it take you to get to your internship?
It takes me about an hour to get to my intership.I get there are 12:45 and the rest of the 15 minutes, I go buy Mc. Donalds.
  • When do you arrive at home?
I leave the site at 4 PM and other times, if I loose track of time, at 4:30. I arrive home, the latest, at 5:30 PM.
  • What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)
For now, I work Monday through Friday for 3 hours and sometimes more.
  • Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)
My mentor can sign my time card but he's usually not there because he says that he doesn't really a intern right now but if he's not here, the manager signs my card.
  • At this point, do you have any other questions, comments, concerns, queries, or inquiries?
NO, MR. ANDREW. I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, OR CONCERNS.
MY INTERSHIP IS REALLY FUN!!!!!

February 15 questions.

-Tell a little about yourself.

My name is Ahoefa but my middle name is Shalom. I am 16 years old. I am from Togo in West Africa.
I live with my family, my 11 year old sister and my 1 year old brother.
When I'm free, i like to read books, write stories, play games on the internet, play basketball and make fun of my sister.

-What did you learn in the junior internship seminar class up to this point?

In Internship seminar I learned how to handle interviews and how to write good, legible resumes. I learned how to deal with problems that come up when you're at your site.

-What is your greatest fear about internship?
I'm afraid the mentor wouldn't like me. I'm afraid he would give me so much work to do and I wouldn't be able to do them. Maybe I would get kicked out of that site and maybe, I wouldn't be able to complete my hours.

-What is your greatest hope for the internship?
I want to see how this experience would help me in either college or in everyday life.

-What is your internship site and what are you going to do there? If you do not know, what do you think you will be doing?
My internship site is called IAAC. That stands for Indo-American-Arts-Council. It has different majors such as theater, film, dance and art. I'm more into the film part of it. I think I will be learning things about filming. Maybe I would look at some films and rate them.

-What will you miss about going to high school as you normally did for the last 2.5 years?
I will miss my teachers. I will miss my friends and especially school.
