The end of the first week of interships

  • What is it? What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?
I worked with the company called IAAC, Indo-America-Arts-Council. It is a non-profit organisation that comes up with special events called the dance, film and art festivals. The main works that the proffessionals do there are filling, typing and mostly office works.
  • Where is it?
My intership site is in Manhattan on West 29th street.
  • Tell a little about your mentor
My mentor's name is Somi. He takes care of the filming part of the company. Right now he doesn't give us any specific jobs to do so the manager of the organisation tells us what to do. My meantor is planning a film festival that's happening all the way in November. So right now, he's getting emails from people about some film submittions. He's not always in so when he's not there, I just do office work with my partner, Syira.
  • What happened on the first day?

On the first day, the office was really messy. So the manager, Nakita, told us to clean everything and make sure everything is on the shelf and in order. For three hours, we cleaned and cleaned. At the end, there was a VERY BIG difference in the office.

  • What kinds of things have you done so far?
So far, I've done a lot of office work. I called different organisations to tell them a change of address. I've made binders for current events and I also made a mailing list where my partner and I typed different addresses from different people. We mostly used excel for everything.

February 15 questions.

-Tell a little about yourself.

My name is Ahoefa but my middle name is Shalom. I am 16 years old. I am from Togo in West Africa.
I live with my family, my 11 year old sister and my 1 year old brother.
When I'm free, i like to read books, write stories, play games on the internet, play basketball and make fun of my sister.

-What did you learn in the junior internship seminar class up to this point?

In Internship seminar I learned how to handle interviews and how to write good, legible resumes. I learned how to deal with problems that come up when you're at your site.

-What is your greatest fear about internship?
I'm afraid the mentor wouldn't like me. I'm afraid he would give me so much work to do and I wouldn't be able to do them. Maybe I would get kicked out of that site and maybe, I wouldn't be able to complete my hours.

-What is your greatest hope for the internship?
I want to see how this experience would help me in either college or in everyday life.

-What is your internship site and what are you going to do there? If you do not know, what do you think you will be doing?
My internship site is called IAAC. That stands for Indo-American-Arts-Council. It has different majors such as theater, film, dance and art. I'm more into the film part of it. I think I will be learning things about filming. Maybe I would look at some films and rate them.

-What will you miss about going to high school as you normally did for the last 2.5 years?
I will miss my teachers. I will miss my friends and especially school.
